Weekend Free-for-All!

I'm heading out of town to see the Perseid meteor shower (cross your fingers that skies remain clear) so I'm posting the Weekend Free-for-All early.


Did you catch Tauros? Did you watch in disbelief as Magikarp ran away from you? Let's share here!

If you're planning to PokeHunt this weekend, good luck! I haven't left town since PokeGo launched so I have no idea what it looks like outside the Metro DC area. Will I catch new and exciting pokémon or will I be in a PokeGo wasteland? Guess I'll find out! ^^v

Wow, how do you get to level 18 without data?

Spend a lot of time at pokestops that have free public wifi and lots of lures being dropped (public libraries with bored teenagers in them are a good bet), catch EVERY SINGLE pidgey and ratatta you see, and then spend three lucky eggs doing nothing but evolving pidgeys and ratattas, mostly. And leave pokemon open on your phone basically all the time to catch as much GPS glitch as you can (I finally hatched the 10k egg tonight! whoo! only 48 hours to get 1.5k!)

There's also a gym near here that has public wifi but in order to be near both the wifi and the gym I have to ...lurk conspicuously, so I've only trained there a couple times. (Also my pokemon are super low-cp compared to other people at my level, afaik, that's what you get when you level up entirely by evolving pigeotto.)

Also if you have friends with unlimited data who are willing to go on pokewalks as mobile hotspots, that's pretty cool.


(I'm mostly still playing at this point out of stubborn contrariness over the ways this game is way less usable without being on the internet than it needs to be. It can follow your path, track your distance, and calculate your speed without being online - it gives you the stop driving warning even! - so there's no reason you couldn't hatch eggs. And yet, you can't.)
