Just kidding! The new PokeGo update is now available in all app stores!

The official patch notes:
  • Capture location: The location where a Pokémon was caught will now be displayed on their information screen.

  • Pokémon GO Plus and Incense: Trainers can attempt to capture Pokémon they encounter from using Incense with the Pokémon GO Plus accessory.

  • Fixed a bug that caused some users to get stuck on the loading screen, even after restarting the app.

  • Fixed a bug where the camera sometimes moved at slow speeds during battle.

  • Minor bug fixes

Something they did not mention specifically but probably falls under the category of "bug fixes" is that gym battles have slightly changed. You can now queue one move beyond the one you're currently executing. So for example, if you tap the screen twice, your mon will launch two attacks. If you're used to spam attacking, this is a change because the game now registers your taps and will lock you in place until it's executed all of the moves queued up. If you're used to dodging (as I am), this changes the attack rhythm a little so you will need to adjust. Otherwise, you're going to mess up your dodge timing. It does, however, make the charge attacks easier to launch. If all this doesn't make sense (and it's kind of hard to explain without demonstration), you will see what I mean the next time you battle a gym.

In short: The update penalizes spam attacking and rewards people who attack strategically.

Anyway! How was your week in PokeGo, trainers?

I'm somewhat weirded out by the location thing. Mostly because I didn't even know there was a West Lucas in Iowa, let alone that it's basically the same exact town where I live (which is known as something completely different, for the record). Maybe they were once two towns and merged long ago, like Slowpoke and Shellder become Slowbro?*

I haven't really been doing as much hunting downtown since I was catcalled for the first time in my life while playing a couple of weeks ago. I instantly missed being invisible, I'll tell you that much. Anyway, now I'm somewhat more wary of going alone, and I don't really have anyone to go with most of the time, so I mostly sit around at home and hope something good shows up in the neighborhood - not entirely unlikely; there's an Eevee nest somewhere around here, and two Frequent Spawn Areas that turn up the most random (yet awesome) stuff. I caught a Venusaur at one of them not too long ago, and I've seen an Exeggutor silhouette more than once as well (though I've yet to get it). Lest you think it's all grass, there's also been Charmander and Vulpix at those same spots, as well as Squirtle and Dewgong. Weirdest thing, that I am in no way complaining about.

* I'm aware that the thing on Slowbro's tail looks nothing like a Shellder. Nevertheless, that is what game lore claims it is. I was hoping it would turn out to be a special form in the upcoming core games, but no sign of that yet.
