After a lot of dedicated magikarp farming, I evolved my very first Gyarados! Too bad it has a garbage moveset but whatever. I have the entry in my pokedex.
Other new mon this week: Catch - Clefairy (omigosh, they're soooo cute) Hatch - Shellder Evolutions - Dragonair & Vileplume
Now I'm contemplating which mon to aim for next. Should I keep going to the place I farmed magikarp from? It's the only place I've consistently caught dratini and fairy types like clefairy & jigglypuff, so it seems like the logical thing to do if I want to get a dragonite, clefable & wigglytuff. Omigosh, I really want a wigglytuff to troll gyms with. Of course, knowing my luck, I'll get a garbage moveset instead of pound/play rough.
I've still got a good chunk of vacant pokedex, but I'm getting to the point where I look at my XP bar and just want to head to wherever gives me the most captures the fastest, regardless of type.
Thanks! Yeah, my pokedex is almost 2/3rds filled so I've reached the point where I need to do hunting or dedicated farming because it's not going to happen by chance.
Dragonair *_* NICE! Yeah, it sounds like going back to the same place would be a good idea - to get enough of the requirements for a Dragonite, at least.
This in game appraisal has made me wildly more callous in culling my collection.
Except for that 10CP meowth, because he was the first one I found, he's hilarious, and I'm keeping him forever.
Anyway, the ability to appraise in game was pretty much the most exciting thing to happen around here.
I evolved a few hypnos, a couple days before the update, and while I don't think that I would have chosen different ones, it turns out that they're all a little bit garbage. But I've still got *checks* 153 drowzee candy, so the next time I catch a likely suspect, I'm all set.
I'm going on another adventure to new territory today. And I will apparently be passing through the land of Charmanders for the next two weeks, so I should be able to evolve this poor, lonely (max defense) one I hatched, soonish.
Ooh, actually. I also discovered (thanks, life in the suburbs) that if I can stop and knock over some gyms on the way home late at night, they're usually still there first thing in the morning to collect from. I'll be interested to see how the gym battle traffic changes once kids are back in school next week.
Yeah, me too -- I've been parked in two already-stacked gyms for a couple of days now, and *check* of the two additional ones I took over last night, one is still comfortably seating my Snorlax.
I'll be interested to see how the gym battle traffic changes once kids are back in school next week.
I'm interested in seeing that too. It might have quite an effect on how things go. In my area, there are a ton of adult players, so I wonder if it'll have that noticeable an effect.
Caught a Kangaskhan tonight, and also hatched my second egg. It was a Pikachu, like the first one. Other new to me catches: Caterpie, Mankey, Doduo. And I evolved my Pidgeotto to a Pidgeot.
And I saw the most beautiful Growlithe on Friday, but despite all the razzberries I threw it, it kept busting out and then ran away. It was *makes fisherperson gesture* THIS BIG. By which I mean its CP was over 300, but that's less important than that it was a Growlithe and they're adorable and also I don't have any fire types yet.
I caught my first Growlithe today! And have been catching Pokemon with higher CPs now like a Tauros with over 1000 CP. Also earlier this week was my first Dratini.
Saw an Ekans on the radar while in the river side park, but after hitting it's North, South and East boundaries, concluded it probably spawned on the island in the middle of the river. Or was in the river itself. IDK, but I was disappointed as I want the snek Pokemon.
I'm not particularly focused on IVs at the moment, which I'll probably regret if I do get into battling heavily, though apparently all my Weedle evolution line Pokemon have bad IVs.
I'm crossing my fingers for cooler temperatures sooner rather than later so I can explore more places without risk of making myself sick, which I suspect I did last week.
Well, IVs are important but they're not as important as CPs at this point in the game. Once you reach level 30, then you probably want to start thinking seriously about IVs. CP of pokemon caught in the wild stops scaling at level 30.
Yeah, CP of hatched pokemon stop scaling at 20 and wild pokemon at 30. But you can still power up your pokemon past level 30 with candy and stardust, up until you reach your trainer cap at level 40.
An omanyte! I've never seen one in the wild. I hatched mine. I have to figure out what to do about that since I want to get the next one in the evolutionary chain to fill out my pokedex.
Omanytes are so hard to come by! And I kind of lurve them, so it's very frustrating!
For what it's worth, both of the two I've seen & caught as well as the one I failed to track down before it despawned were very near the coast, within just a few blocks of the water (a major bay on the Pacific coast of the US).
Oooooh. Okay! That helps. I was only thinking of them in terms of water pokemon but maybe there's a fine distinction in terms of water terrains for spawns.
My week was amazing; since I was on vacation in a major city, I caught and evolved more pokemon in one week than I have... since I started playing, actually. And it was really cool to test out the Random Spawn trick for myself.
Aaaand now I am back in the land of "40 minute walk to the nearest pokestop". ~_~ Oh well, at least it's easy to hatch eggs from all the walking I do at home....
My biggie for the week was catching a Snorlax just a couple of rural-blocks (i.e., pastures) from home. I was on a walk with incense and suddenly I was surrounded by four fairly common Pokemons and OMG A SNORLAX HOLY CRAP. Which I suspect I said out loud...? My neighbors must wonder about this middle aged woman who goes walking about staring at her phone and mumbling. *g*
I also spent a couple of hours one day in Big Little City up the road practicing battling or training in a gym that turned over many times an hour. I feel a wee bit less inept at it now; it's nice to have a little bit of bravado about it, if not quite confidence yet.
I'm 2/3 of the way to Level 27 and have started saving up the wee critters for an evo fest to help move things along.
Oh! I forgot that I also had a question for the hive mind.
I've been playing with the Appraise option quite a bit and am really appreciating it, especially for quick and easy transfer decisions on the fly.
I read about what Blanche says (I'm Mystic) and I think that I understand all of it except for one thing: She often mentions something about size as her last remark, but only if it's particularly large or small relative to the norm for that type of Pokemon.
Is the size significant? How? Does it make a difference in battle? Why mention it at all?
Is the size significant? How? Does it make a difference in battle? Why mention it at all?
That is the million dollar question! No one knows because as far as people have figured out, size doesn't seem to matter in gym battles at all. They're wondering if it'll play a role in PvP battles when that feature gets added.
I'm not sure size makes a difference at all! (I would notice it otherwise; most of my high CP mons are very tiny! Haha!) I wonder if it's just there for flavor? Like inkstone said, maybe in the future it might matter somewhere, but right now it doesn't.
Nothing much else exciting, I'm still mostly stuck at home, but I've walked down to the stop near my house a couple of times now, so that's something. :3
Fire type week! I hatched a Ponyta, the first I've seen, and it is super pretty. I have a Charmander as starter but hadn't seen any others until two days ago, when one popped up in the middle of a shopping center while I was going past on the bus - it took 5 ultra balls and razz berries but I succeeded!
And then when I appraised it it sucked. Arrgh. Fortunately I found out about a Charmander spawn point in a wetland nearby and walking there today got me one that Blanche thought more highly of.
I just got back from a quick trip to visit my nephew two cities over, where I stepped out of the station, and ran straight into two decent CP Eevees, so I'm that much closer to getting my next evolve (Eevees are stupid rare where I live and work). I managed to impress nephew by having more pokemon in my pokedex than him (but different ones, so I could be envious of some of his very honestly) and we had a good hunt together, including a Weezing, which was new for both of us. MrMime also showed up randomly in my bedroom last night, so - that was actually a tad creepy, but still - I've never even seen the shadow of one before.
I have had to deal with an injured foot (sob) so most of the last week I didn't get to play. But I went to Melbourne this weekend and got out of the house at the ungodly hour of 8am just so I could go hunt some eevees.
I, erm, now have three Jolteons, and no other eeveelutions /)_(\
Oh, but...
I got my second Lapras yesterday!!!!!!!
(And a couple of Wartortles and I'm more than halfway to my second Gyarados and a Dratini away from a Dragonite -- if I really want it, or I can catch a few more and evolve my excellent IV Dratini -- but I'm really most excited about the Lapras. :D)
It's so fascinating to me how the biomes work. While I no longer live on top of the eevee volcano of mid-August (no, seriously, I was evolving an eevee everyday until I got sick of it & started ignoring them!), eevees are still relatively common. I have 10 eeveelutions in my arsenal. O_O
I've sorted out the water biome pokemon, for the most part, but I just don't know what to do about rock, electric, or fire pokemon.

Winter will be a big deciding factor, up here.

I hatched one. They're not very common here. When I spotted one on my tracker once, I literally ran out of my house to get it.

Huh. I did not know that. Thank you! That will help me with decisions on what and when to evolve.

Caught my first Arbok and Omanyte, hatched a Ponyta and a Tentacruel, and evolved a Starmie and a Kingler.
Also saw the outline of a Bulbasaur for the first time, but again was on the bus so couldn't try to track it down.

And yay you for gymming it up! I feel it gets more fun the more you do it, in the sense that you don't get as nervous about it anymore...? Hah. :D
Cheering you on for leveling up!
