During their SDCC panel yesterday, Niantic revealed the three Team Leaders of Pokémon Go:



They're silhouettes no longer! What do we think?

Candela looks like my pokemon avatar, but with short hair.

My avatar doesn't look like Candela but Candela is totally my aesthetic, so I'm happy I chose Team Valor.

When I first saw them, my thoughts were basically, "My dear team leader, what the heck are you wearing?!" and also "Mannn, I should have chosen Valor instead."

...Fortunately, some of the fanart has made Blanche grow on me a lot, fashion disaster of an outfit and all, so I guess I don't mind being Mystic. xD

Mannn though, I didn't expect Candela to be so smokin'. Wow.

Spark looks exactly the way I pictured him, which is a pleasant surprise. :)

Candela is totally my aesthetic, but I get the aesthetic that Blanche is aiming for and for the people who love that look, she hits it pretty hard.

I admit Spark makes me giggle a little. Candela and Blanche look like serious team leaders, but he reminds me vaguely of a boyband drop out. On the other hand, people should write "Spark: Boyband Singer Turned Team Instinct Leader" because I'd be all over that.

I'm Team Valor, the only one out of all my friends. I picked it because red is my favorite color but also because Candela's pose was the cutest. Boy, do I feel vindicated, haha!

I could also tell by the silhouette that she had a hairstyle similar to one I used to have.

My biggest surprise is that Blanche doesn't have glasses, actually.

Haha, I also picked Valor because of the color & the fact that it was an aggressive team led by a woman!

Most of my friends are Team Mystic but there are a couple Valor. We're definitely outnumbered, though not as much as poor Team Instinct.

Most of my friends chose Instinct! I think Instinct has a cute philosophy... I can imagine Spark singing to eggs (mostly because of the boy band comments above!) and trying a bunch of different cute things to see if it affects the pokemon after it hatches.

And definitely where I live most people are Valor or Mystic, but Instinct is kinda coming back a bit, I think!

Dang, I am not into Blanche at all. Team Mystic was very nearly my team thanks to the beauty of Articuno (I only went Instinct because I didn't want to be constantly fighting my already-Instinct-aligned friends, haha), but now I'm glad I didn't pick blue. The outfit is too overdone--and not in the normal goofy Pokemon way I love--and something about Blanche's face just looks a little off to me.

Candela is objectively the best-looking leader (that coat! that hair! that pose!), but Spark is a fun second. I'm pleased with my nerd-rock gym leader. XD

I think Blanche's official pose, as it were, doesn't really do her justice. Some of the fanart puts her in more dynamic poses and that rather busy outfit doesn't look quite so bombastic.

Candela is true to my heart but I do love how fandom has taken the idea of Spark: Nerd-rocker/Boyband Drop Out/Tries Really Hard!! and run with it. We'll enjoy it before Niantic inevitably reveals something that completely crushes it and just isn't as interesting. (But we could be wrong! You never know.)

I chose Instinct and I couldn't be happier. He's such a goof. He's basically Owain from Fire Emblem Awakening.

I'm Team Mystic, and I'm loving the Nonbinary Blanche headcanon, buuut . . . I'm kind of head over heels in love with Spark and the fandom's headcanon of his personality.

(Except for the interpretations that turn him into an MRA/douchebro, of course)

He's just such a ridiculous goofy cinnamon roll and I want to protect him! <3

(he also really reminds me of my favourite character in a story my friend and I have been writing for over a decade, so that helps, too. :3)

Oh wow, I feel lucky that I haven't run into the MRA/douchbro headcanons. Well-meaning, earnest and maybe a little goofy Spark is how he should be!

I'm mainly thinking of tweets like this one that came out shortly after the reveal: mostly people who want to make a stark point of how much of a loser they perceive him to be.

But yes, well-meaning, earnest and goofy is totally my headcanon for him, too!
