"Win 3 Great League Trainer Battles"

I just started playing again after several months' hiatus due to my phone not taking an update, and I'm trying to catch up on Special Research.

I'm stuck on "Win 3 Great League Trainer Battles Against Another Trainer" in the "A Professor's Work Is Never Done" quest - I had left it before because I am REALLY BAD at trainer battles and had been avoiding them, but I just bashed at it all afternoon and finally won 4/5 in a Go Battle League round, but I didn't get any progress on the research task - does GBL not count for that research task? If not, how do I do it without having to leave the house?

I poked around the internet and it seemed to say it should work? Except maybe there's a bug?

ETA: It seemed to be because the February Go Battle League was Kanto-only; once March loaded with normal Great League, it worked (...and was much harder to win...) so I have the accomplishment!

That might be the one where you have to fight someone from your friend list?

Do you need someone to get in a trainer battle and deliberately lose against you? If you want that, PM me with a Discord code and I don't remember if we're already pokefriends, but if we aren't, PM me with your friends code.

If your username matches, we aren't? If it doesn't I have no idea, I lose track of non-matching usernames immediately. But don't you still have to be at a certain level of friendship in order to battle remotely? I can see if any of my existing high-level friends will accept, I guess.

(I had a couple of friend request notifs when I reinstalled that were probably from people who saw when I posted it oublically on this comm before, but I couldn't find them once I got back in, I guess they expire after awhile?)

Huh, that should have worked, assuming the Go Battle League we'd Great League. If not, depending on your time zone, maybe we can arrange something for you to get your victories?

It was the special Great League - Kanto Tour that was running in February. I think it's back to just plain Great League now, so I can try that just in case that was the issue, although I bet I am much less likely to win if it's not Kanto-only.

Otherwise I may just start randomly propositioning my friends and see what happens.

On 21.02 there were instead of Rocket Team members, Battlers that you had to fight against at the Pokestops.
Maybe Niatic will use that again in the next Great Tour.

Playing the March Go Battle League worked for the research, so I guess it was because of the special event!
