Okay, I'm officially stuck and I can't figure out how to Google this - how do I get hearts for playing with my buddy?

I go into the AR "play" screen, and pat it, and it reacts, but I never get a heart. I do get hearts just fine for taking photos. Do you have to pat it for, like, ten minutes at a stretch? Or a certain number of times a day? Does it not like my phone's AR? What am I missing?

You have to pet it for a little while - you start to get sparkles appear and as you keep going they burst into a heart.

You should not tap but rub it (without taking your finger off the screen). Up and down, in the region of its head, works well. Shouldn't take more than a half minute, maybe a minute.

You can get only 1 heart per day for it though.

I've found rubbing in a small circle in the right spot can usually get me a heart in under ten seconds. Usually it's around the same spot where they catch berries.

FWIW, different species seem to like being "skritched" in different places -- nose, tummy, ears, etc. Once I find a good spot for the species, it always seems to take exactly 4 "skritches" to trigger the little happy animation and the heart.
