February's Community Day, and new legendaries, and pokemon!

February's Community Day will be Feb 24th, and the Pokemon of the day will be Dratini. Oh boy am I hoping the rumours that being the featured Pokemon means a shiny variant as well as the event-specific moveset!

But first! Rayquaza is rotating in as a legendary raid boss (Feb 9th to March 16th - Kyogre's sticking around until Feb 16th) and they are releasing a further batch of new Pokemon. From the 9th to the 13th Hoenn region Pokemon will "take over" in the wild (I'm not clear on if that means 100% of spawns will be Hoenn region 'mon, or just more than usual) and Lures will run for 6 hours until the 23rd (which IMO rather undercuts them running for 3 hours on Community Day on the 24th...)

How did January's community day go in your neck of the woods? How are you going with Kyroge and other new critters? Any joy with Ex-raids?

January's community day was a good morning for me - my local Discord group joined up with folks from a few stops down the line to target a large park (in the hope of triggering and Ex-Raid, which they did) and there must have been 80+ people there at any given time - some familiar faces, and some good rolling conversation with new people - we even got a few unexpected passers by who used to play to sign up to Discord in the hope of participating next time. I was hoping to get my gold Pikachu badge and didn't, but did catch a bunch of stuff, and the group succeeded in triggering an Ex-Raid. Did not catch any Kyroges - I have had the worst luck with catching raid bosses since the update rolled out on the 17th Jan, and I'm not alone in that ... Fortunately I have *one*, caught before that update. Kyrogre / Milotic is the most ridiculously pretty battle I've yet seen.

I have also been having crappy luck with filling out my pokedex, having not even *seen* any of the new 'mon they released 10 days ago, so I'm really hoping the Hoenn "take over" will change that!

Current 'Dex stats are 310 / 338, with a 145/95/69 split.

Amongst those seen and not caught - Mewtwo! I made it to my Ex-raid, defeated her, and then utterly failed to have her stay in a ball (happened to 2 out of 16 of us ...) Since then I've had two invites that I couldn't attend (one triggered by community day activities, just in the middle of the work day, over an hour from where I work, and one triggered by the bug, for a gym on the far side of France that I visited once last summer...)

I just got my first Ex-raid pass, and it starts at the same time as my local anime con staff meeting =_= I'm a department head, which means I gotta be there, or I need to find a proxy.

I tried texting my brother to see if I could bribe him into going for me, but no response yet. I may try and text again.

No word from my brother; I think I'm just going to show up late to the meeting :P We get meeting notes, and as long as I'm there at all, I'm pretty sure I don't need a proxy. I'll just send my division head a note that I'll be late.

I didn't get to join my local trainer community on the first community day due to family commitments but I'm hopeful that I can make the February one.

I have my first Ex Raid Pass! It's for a gym that I do raid regularly but it hasn't previously had an Ex Raid at the location. I am both excited and nervous about the whole thing. I don't really get out to the gyms that do generate regular Ex-raid invites so this feels like my one and only chance for a Mewtwo and with my appalling catch record for Kyogre (1 in 7!) I'm not hopeful about my ability/luck with Mewtwo. But I'm going to get out there and do my best. The local raid community are a lovely bunch of very helpful and organised people so I'm reasonably confident we can defeat Mewtwo and I could always ask for help if my fingers are too frozen for catching again. I'd just prefer to be able to do that bit myself :)

Eeee! Good luck! If you have an organized crew, I'd bet you'll be fine - Mewtwo went down more easily than I was anticipating. Here's hoping you have better luck with catching than I did (you have me beat on Kyogre's - I'm 1 for 9!)

Oh goodness, 1 for 9 would have had me crying in frustration. I met a guy today who hasn't managed to catch one at all though.

But I caught my Mewtwo today despite the fact that I couldn't feel my fingers for the cold and I'm so very happy about that :)

I was out of town for the Jan community day, but the place where I was had an active group and a huge number of people at a local park, where we did 3 legendary raids in a row and caught lots of Pikachu. I managed to snag two shinies, so I evolved a shiny Raichu as well. Definitely looking forward to February's, when I'll be home with a free weekend.

Kyogre was a pain to catch, but it's been around so long I caught a good stable of 'em eventually, including a couple weather-boosted to Lv25. Only done one Rayquaza so far and it got away.

Doing pretty well on Hoenn so far, got my badge up to 100 and I have a few more I can evolve real soon.
