I just saw the news about Pokemon Go Community Days, which seem to be a new monthly event, aimed at bringing players together in real life over something other than raiding, with special event Pokemon-skill combos, bonus XP, and extended lures for a 3-hour window. First one is Jan 20th.
In other news, Groudon in on its way out as a legendary raid boss (ending 1:00 p.m. PST on January 15, 2018) and Kyogre in on its way in, and will be with us until Valentine's Day.
So, how's the Pokemon Go world looking from where you are?

One of my unsuccessful Groudon raids, on a gym I don't often go to, turned into an Ex-raid invite! It's in the middle of the working day, next week, but fortunately relatively near work, and at a time I can cover with a late lunch break. I'm *really* hoping nothing urgent comes up that means I need to reschedule the "Offsight meeting" I have in my calendar, and have my "Mew2Crew" set up as a Party. I burned some charge TMs and most of my Special Candy and all my stardust getting powered up and ready to roll.
Before Gen 3 my pokedex was at 245 caught, 250 seen, December 10th it was 252 caught, but 262 seen, and today I'm at 282 caught and 308 seen, which is an even bigger gap between seen and caught! I haven't done a lot of gen 3 evolving yet, though, which is part of it, and I did get my silver Hoen badge (with the Groudon!) and tip over into level 36.
I think the community things seems like a nice bonus for regular players, but I'm not sure that it will do much to lure those who no longer play regularly back. Still - picachus and double XP - I ain't complaining!
And I had a lovely experience today running into a raiding crew, who split their group of 20 into two raids, so I could join them, which continues my theme of random strangers who are Pokemon people being lovely! (I know not everyone has had that experience, but, yes.)
I'm definitely enjoying the wider range of catches that the new weather system has brought with it, to, and I feel like the Pokestop rewards have re-balanced a little, so I'm not always short of potions any more. .

I missed my last Groudon with the best CP I've seen, but have several others, so good enough. Got a few Kyogres now too (there's a pretty active raid group in my town). 'Grats on the EX Pass, though, haven't seen any of those locally in ages!
We have snow weather today with ice and steel spwans, which is fun... but it's probably a good thing the sweet Gen3 steel types (Aggron and Metagross lines) aren't released yet, because we're in the middle of getting 6-8" or more of actual snow, which my state really can't handle well, and going out chasing catches would be a Pretty Bad Idea.
But after evolving several Gen3 my dex is now up to 313 caught, 320 seen, so I really can't complain. Plus I just tipped over to level 38 yesterday. Only three million XP to 39! :D

I made the ex-raid, defeated Mewtwo, and then utterly failed to catch her, which was frustrating! I got my one and only Kyogre on my way back to work, which is some compensation - I'm now at 9/1 for seen and caught on Kyrogre and starting to think I'll never get a second!
Congrats on levelling up!
