Your mod would like to apologize for being absent the past month. I kind of got swallowed up by work. Sorry for not reporting in with news and updates. ^^;
I have hit level 38! I still need a Miltank to complete my non-regional Pokédex (well, and Mewtwo), despite the event we've just had; I somehow managed to hatch three Tyrogue, though.
I am nowhere near completing several of the outstanding badges, and I'm contemplating a post on Pokemon Go and community sparked by my local area's response to raids...
I am steadily evolving my sheep, helped by the equinox event and some rare candy, which will finish my non-legendary ever-spawned-in-britain pokedex.
I made it to a lev 5 raid and got Suicine which was quite exciting.
I started working on my missing element type gold badges. I got dark and fairy, but the others are a way off. But it's nice to have a reason to look out for particular creatures.
I'm also feeling a bit burned out. I love catching pokemon round and about, but now I have so much stuff that doesn't get me any of the rewards. And it's hard to arrange raids, which are thing that most gives me the things I don't already have.
Thank you! Yes, this is what I *did* do when level 5 raids started being a thing, which is how I found the high level raids I have done. Round here (and I think many places), there was a facebook group which mostly had general chat, but it's recently been somewhat overtaken by a discord channel which is more active for people meeting up for raids.
In the village where I work, there are just not that many people playing. Very fortunately, there's plenty of active players near where I live, so I am lucky in that if there's a raid I *want* to do, I can probably find some high level players already converging on it. But the problem is, pokemon used to be great for "i'll just do this for five minutes to get myself out of the house" but doing raids is the opposite of that, it means I need to wait until one happens, and then drop everything if I want to do it.
I went on vacation to a place with a lot of gyms, and I got to see how fun the system is. It doesn't make up for not having gym access at home, but I got to make progress on some of the gym badges and raid for a Legendary (which I lost, but I tried), which was nice. I also hit level 31, added Farfetch'd and Mr. Mime to my seen Pokemon, and hatched a Lapras (finally!!!).
Entei really doesn't like me - I have a couple by now but my catch rate is miles lower than it was for Raikou. Just RNG I'm sure.
At this point I've got every pokemon except most of the regionals (and I finally have "seen" for everything released now that I found a Kangaskahn on a gym), so I'm excited for Gen 3 whenever that is. The latest update added more Gen 3 data (including Deoxys and Castform forms apparently), but the new sound files aren't in yet so we'll need more updates before they're out.
Speaking of the most recent update, though, it has some great bug fixes in, like the bug where curveballs sometimes didn't register, the bad lobby count for raids, and supposedly some of the occasional network errors when fighting gyms, so that's all good stuff!
I'm finding Suicain to be harder to catch than Entai, but better than the birds (but no good IV examples, yet.)
I really enjoyed the recent event, focusing on the "walk and hatch/catch" elements of the game to rebalance the gym-focus of the legendaries - I spent my whole month's game budget on special incubators and do not regret that.
Finding a local-enough Discord group has been useful a couple of times for raiding parties, but like Jack says above, the whole structure of that kind of game play doesn't fit my lifestyle particularly well.

May poke head out of hole in another few weeks. Depending. *hissy noises at time, etc*
Made level 26 in the last week or so, though, that was pretty exciting. :)
