Aaaaand most of the new style stuff costs coins. I shouldn't be surprised by that. (I will admit to being slightly surprised that glasses cost coins; I guess I've been spoiled by Habitica.)
UGH. I tried to swing through a park on the way home to top up my items, but the server kept borking out on me, and taunted me with all the new 'mons popping up. I hope this levels out soon.
Has anyone else's iPhone been acting weird since the update? Mine won't charge, even from the wall, and the screen won't lock automatically, despite being on low power mode.
Heh. Yeah, I felt lucky that I was able to do my daily pokestop spin and pidgey catch to keep my streak alive. Fun with the new stuff will have to wait a day or two until things quiet down a wee bit. Ah, well.
I was in the middle of playing when Gen 2 started here, and I caught six new Pokemon (Sentret, Hoothoot, Chinchou, Murkrow, Snubbull, and Swinub) before the servers really started messing up. The servers calmed down a couple hours ago, so I also managed to evolve to Espeon and Umbreon. So much fun! I missed the rush of catching a bunch of new Pokemon.
I'm disappointed that the new style stuff costs coins, but it doesn't affect me much; I'm pretty happy with my style as is. I'm more disappointed that there wasn't an automatic storage/bag upgrade.
So after a false start, when logging on registered distance traveled but not a single other solitary thing, I got some good progress made. So far I've caught:
Eevee is also fairly common in my area, so I've managed to evolve Espeon and Umbreon as well. The nickname shortcuts for those two, via serebii.net, are:
Sakura for Espeon, and Tamao for Umbreon.
I saw silhouettes for, but didn't catch:
* Piloswine * Snubble * Furret * Sneasel
I can also confirm that the gender differences introduced in Gen IV are included in all of the 'mon they are relevant to, but will note that it looks like all Gen I 'mon that have gender differences defaulted to whichever gender the "official" version is associated with. I haven't verified this officially yet, but considering that every single one of the Gen I 'mon I have that got an added gender difference in Gen IV is male (most of the design variations are female, with very few exceptions), I feel pretty confident guessing it's the same for everyone. You can see the list of which Pokemon got gender differences here, if you want to think about getting one of each gender for any of them.
BTW, the Sneasal silhouetted I saw was pretty clearly female, so gender differences are definitely a thing; I don't know how that will play out for how species show up after it's caught, but I guess we'll find out :P
Okay, just saw a female Wooper in the area after having caught a male (and only seen the one Wooper total), so it looks like gender differences are going to show up on the Nearby Pokemon screen.

Anyway, I got mine to come good by switching it off and on again.

I'm a bit annoyed that there's STILL no blue hat and no all-blue jacket! Maybe Team Mystic isn't supposed to care?

That is really tiresome, isn't it? *grumble*
Also: Still no gray hair option. I rock my gray hair, damn it, and would prefer to do so in the game, too.
