Gen 2 is on the way!

Hello trainers!

I hope you've been enjoying the Valentine's Day event. Remember it ends later today! (Your mod has caught plenty of lickitung but alas! Chansey continues to elude her. The salt is high.)

Now for the big news: Gen 2 pokémon are on their way. Niantic will begin rolling out the update later this week.

In addition to over 80 new pokémon, we'll also be getting:

• new evolutions -- as well as new evolution items dropping at PokeStops to make those evolutions happen


• new encounter gameplay


• new berry types -- one makes the pokémon slower and easier to catch (I think this is a hint about the new encounter gameplay!) & the other doubles the amount of candy received if your catch succeeds


• new avatars & wardrobe options!!

This looks to be a pretty hefty update. What do y'all think?

Yeeeeesssss. This will make me vastly more interested in playing now that it's mostly come down to grinding mileage on eggs to fill up my Pokedex and collecting candy with my Pokebuddy with what we currently have.

Though I do hope that, if they're going to start increasing the number of Pokémon and items available, they're also going to increase bag and Pokémon space.

ETA: I'm less than 20k to level 31. I wonder if they're going to rejigger the items gifted when one levels up, and if I should try to hold off on my leveling just in case?

Hrm, I hadn't thought of that about the level rewards (but there's no way I'm going to get to my next level this week, anyway)

If it were me, I'd hold off because I'd be curious, and now that the Valentine's event is over, not much is must-catch or must-hatch. But for the in-between levels the reward gifts are light enough that I can't imagine they would change much if at all.

I finally coughed up the coins to max Pokémon storage this week, and I've only got about 110 open spots, so here's hoping we'll get at least a bump on par with the number of new species.

Oh, that's a really good point! I may hold off on my own impending level-up for the same reason. Thanks for sharing that speculation.

I will admit to being a fairly lackadaisical player, but I managed to catch two Porygon, a Lickitung, and a Chansey over the course of the event, as well as my second Ditto. Looking forward to seeing what happens from here.

The excitement! I have it! Which, gotta say, is a nice change. I've been playing steadily all along, since it's my distraction-from-pain while walking, but it's been a while since anything in the game got me really psyched. It'll be great to feel the eagerness and joy again.

I have got... *counts* 33 top tier eevees, and another handful of high CP ones that are finally going to be set free from limbo, hurrah!

It's still a bit too painfully windy and chilly for me to be too psyched about trekking out to find new wild catches. I may ration this out for a long time, but even as I type that, I can't imagine seeing a silhouette on nearby and not going to check it out, so...

Though that's a good point about storage. I really need to find a way to take over a gym and keep it long enough to get coins, damnit. Guess I just have to play more.

(I haven't seen any chansey or porygon during the event. Bluh!!!)

I also heard that storage will be going on special over the next week too. so maybe hold out before buying it to see if that is true
