Do you name your Pokemons?

One of my favorite things about the game is getting to name my catches (though I only name the top two or three per type; the rest get Transferred for the candy payoff).

Do you name yours? Do you have a theme? Do they all get names, or only your favorites?

Some of mine are fannish (note that some are shortened because of length limits):
- Zubats are Darla, Angel, and Spike
- Nidorans (female) are TiffnyAching, EsmeWethrwax, and NannyOgg
- Rattatas are DngrousBeans, Darktan, and Peaches
- Pidgey is Pigwidgeon
- Bellsprouts are PomonaSprout and Neville

Others are inspired by their natures or characteristics:
- Clefairies are Caliban and Titania
- Venonats evolve into moth-ish things, so they're named after kinds of moths
- Geodude is RockyBalboa
- Krabby is Krankypants
- Lickitung is Droolgoober
- Horsea is Seabiscuit
- Rhydon is Sherman (after the tank)

I am trying to name them all. Basically I go with whatever letter is next in the alphabet, plus something related to the type. Some of them have ended up with personalities based on the name I picked semi-randomly. It's also meant I've given quite a lot of girls' names, whereas if I hadn't stopped to think about it I might have assumed all the Pokémon were male, because creatures get assumed male by default, and I'm glad I noticed and broke out of that pattern, given only the Nidorans (I think?) are gendered at all.

I tend to only name evolved 'mon. I always name my top 'mon -- I feel like if I'm taking them into battle, I should -- but I also name other ones. No particular theme. I try to be inspired and clever, but it really boils down to whether the name entertains me.

I can pretend my naming schema is serious but as you can see, that is clearly untrue.

Since I'm not very high-level yet, I'm still at the stage where I'm trading in a lot of pokemon. So, I've decided to only name the ones that I'm sure I'm going to keep. So far, that's only two: one is my starter, and the other is the only pokemon that I have that's anywhere near battle-ready.

Hypno - Samuli

I've named all of my keepers after characters from A Redtail's Dream, hah. I guess I'll keep doing that until I run out of names.

I name the ones I keep rather than immediately transferring, and tend to shift the name to a new one of the same type if higher cp shows up - so for instance my pidgeotto/pidgeot will always be named Rufeo.

My Pikachu is SmilingDeath; my Jigglypuff is SoulDevourer; my Dratini is Snek.

Yeah, I do the same. My Jolteon is always Static Shock. My Pidgeot is always Angry Bird.

Occasionally it changes? My first Golbat was named AHHHHHH! (because due to having shown the extended meme to someone fairly soon before all I could think about looking at him was "reblog if AHHHHHHH!") but after I got one wayyyy higher "AHHHH!" no longer seemed to work right so now that one's named Marabat (after Mara, the bat-god in the Belgariad-verse >.>), and even if I get a new higher Charmander I'm keeping my starter because I'm sentimental so there'll be another working char-type name, and so on.

But by and large . . . .XD

and I'm so amused: my Fearow is "Rage Bird" because my very first Spearow was "Angry Bird" because that was ALL I COULD THINK when I looked at it. And then before I realized you could transfer I'd ended up with "Annoyed Bird" and "Grumpy Bird" and so on for Pidgeys and thus "Rage Bird" for one of the Spearows.

I only name the ones I'm planning on keeping (or think of perfect name for) otherwise I'd never trade them.

My Jigglypuff is "SoulDevourer", my Charmander is "Death of All" and my Pikachu is "Smiling Death".

My Ghastly is "SatanBall." This is because I'd already caught a Voltorb, gone "what the FUCK is that?!" and named it "DemonBall".

I name anyone who is in my top nine ranked by cp. aka Pokemon who may end up in a gym.

I've been having a lot of Clone Wars feels lately so all mine are named in Mando'a.

-my starter charmander is Sol'yc (first)
-my first and still strongest Pidgeot is Senaar (bird)
-seaking is gi (fish)
-eveelutions are Mirshir, Hettir, and Pehir. (To shock, to burn, to spit)
-and while I was typing this up I caught an evee, evolved it and named it Shonar (wave).

I have a lot of fun naming them... I don't have a set criteria except what the pokemon looks like, how was it caught, what its name reminds me of...

Jynx - Jyn Erso
Charmander - Aquaman (I caught him on water)
Sandshrew - Don Diego (I hear parts of CA are loaded with sandshrew so I named mine after Zorro, my favorite californio)
Dratini - Snort Snoot
Magneton - Nikola Tesla
Abra - Merlin
Horses is :o because that's the face it makes
Electabuzz is the weirdest since it made me think of election buzz and somehow the next step was to name it Ballot Box idek

Aw, great idea. I would totally lose track, I'm afraid, so I keep the original names. But I enjoy creative naming when others do it. :)
