PokeGo's First In-game Event!

"Pokémon GO - Halloween Is Approaching..." (Watch on YouTube)

Look alive, we'll be having our first in-game event from October 26 - November 1! It is, as you can probably guess, Halloween-themed.

• Increased chances of encountering "spooky" pokémon: drowzee, hypno, gastly, haunter, gengar, zubat, and golbat.


• Double the amount of candy for catching, hatching & transferring pokémon. So you get 2 candy when you send a mon to Professor Willow & 6 (!!) when you catch them.


• And the big one: you get four candies instead of one when walking your buddy!

ETA on 10/25/16: Silph Road members, based on Ingress events, are saying that the event runs on UTC time!

I have a couple 10km eggs about to hatch, so I think I might skip my pokewalk tomorrow so I can get the double the candy on Wednesday! (Watch them turn out to be eevees, lol.)

But this is pretty exciting. I'm currently walking my rhyhorn but after that, maybe I'll switch to my dratini?? It seems way more efficient to walk it during this event than any other time. (4 candies per 5km versus 1 per 5km!)

:O I hadn't considered switching buddies... Thanks for the idea. Looks like I might switch to a Drat as well, since they're super rare around here.

Yup! I used to see dratini in the water biomes I haunted, but now I rarely see them. So this is my chance!!

It's also a good idea for people wanting to earn candy to power up their snorlax or lapras since those are pretty rare too. Oh! And people still working on their gyarados! That's 4 magikarp candy per 1 KM!

I will definitely be switching to my magikarp shortly. My raichu isn't powered up as much as I'd like, but I need to evolve a gyrados. BADLY.

NICE. I'm looking forward to the uptick in ghost pokemon. And alllll those candies. Four per unit for walking? Awesome.

I have a hypno and golbat already, but I'm excited about getting a gengar for my pokedex. Hopefully, I'll see lots of gastlies!

...I do not need more Drowzees. I already have enough evolved Hypnos to keep the entire first stanza of "Dreamers" by Siegfried Sassoon in my Pokemon collection.

(Yes, this is what I've been doing with my bounty of Drowzees. I still have one more stanza left, so.)

But yay for more candies! I have a Graveler to evolve.

This gives me hope that we're gonna have a Christmas event. Ice pokemon! LAPRAS EVERYWHERE. (It'd be amazing, come on.)

My entire country is coming down with Drowzees and Hypnos already. Wish it was Abras if they were including Psychic Pokemon, as I still need 40 candies to evolve Alakazam.

I'm not quite sure why they didn't include abra. Someone said it's because drowsees are dream 'mon whereas abra are just regular psychic 'mon, but that seems like semantics.

I am super excited for this. It doesn't hurt that it falls over a convention weekend for me. I'll probably start by collecting candies to finally evolve my starter from Wartotle to Blastoise, and then switch to Magikarp, because that fucker takes waaaaaay too many candies.

I also plan to mainline ghosts. My location is lousy with Drowzee, so I'm not that excited about them, but Zubat and Ghastly are uncommon/medium-rare. Zubat I can live without, but I wouldn't say 'no' to raising up (and possibly powering up) another Gengar.

I have yet to evolve a gengar! I only have a haunter because of egg hatches, so this is exciting.

....ahahahahaha oh man, timing is fucking everything. I'm having the surgery to get this one bolt out of my foot on Thursday morning! Which given time zone differences will be roughly when the event starts! *slightly hysterical cackling*

Well, I'll enjoy as much of it as I can! Maybe I can finally catch a ghastly! >: (...I really don't need more zubat though. Plz go away, zubat. I have 83 zubat candy spare already, and given I've only caught ~250 pokémon TOTAL thaaaat's kinda a lot.)

Also omfg I opened up the game to check my candy, and THERE WAS A GROWLITHE AND I CAUGHT IT eeeeeee first growlithe hiiiiiii pretty puppy~ <3
