Yesterday's community day was a pretty average one for me as an event, although I got *super* lucky on the shinies and came home with 10 (one of my good friends landed only one, it's nice to have spares to share!) Didn't manage to make any of the trades I had lined up, and had to delete a ton of "2 trade" mons to make space for catching, and lost out on the stardust boost because Niantic refused to take my money (I assumed that was the various server issues , but they still won't let me buy coins this morning - I just get the spinny disc of doom.). OTOH,good weather, decent spawns, some good company, but I wasn't 100% health-wise and wasn't really feeling the joy. (I was more-ill later in the afternoon, but in retrospect, that was probably what was off in the morning.) I did get a couple of good IV/CP Eevees, and a handful of Charmanders as a bonus as well (and some pidgies, which have been rarer than hens teeth recently.)
Before that was the shinies-for-Ingress release. Now, I have a huge softspot for both ponyta and cubone, and the ponyta shiny is *so* pretty, so I was grinding as hard as I could around work, but only managed a single cubone, and thus far have not found folks who want to trade shiny ponys... I had better luck with the pretty shiny Pinser, though, and have a pair of those.
Gengar day was a lot of fun for me - this was a nice balance of a "big" enough 'Mon to get the crowds out, but not so big that people really felt the need to put the raiding over the social. One of my best friends came over for her first raid-train, and time with her is always a good thing, so that + some good chats en-route + a disproportionate shiny ratio for us = all good by me! (We ended up doing only 9 raids, which resulted in one shiny for her, and three for me - many of the crew who went for the full 22 or 24 raids didn't get any!)
I also really enjoyed the bonus Halloween mini-special-research, and really hope they do more things like that. I know some people really resented the spin 8 new stops research, but given that the main reward was available with out doing that step, and there's no expiry date so long as you started the research chain in time, I feel like Niantic actually managed that pretty well.
I'm really enjoying having some interesting 'mon in T1 and T2 raids, which I can just nip out and solo. Still no shiny Shinx, but I'm trying every one I can, and Buizel is cute, too. Snagged my first Nincada from a "catch three bugs" research today, and I've managed a couple of November Spindas, although their research has been harder to find this month.
I'm also really hoping that the Adventure Sync rewards work this week as they did last week, as I've had to really work at it to ensure that I've got two open egg slots ready and waiting for Monday morning, and if that doesn't net the egg rewards that I'm hoping for based on last week, I am going to be miffed. I cold have done a fair amount more stardust today if my catching wasn't limited by not being willing to spin stops for fear of eggs.(not being able to buy more incubators is also really frustrating here!)
Adventure Sync is an interesting idea, but they do seem to be really struggling with the diversity of possible hardware. I'm an Android person, but I carry a fitbit, and I haven't yet managed to get GoogleFit to work with the eliptical, but just the background tracking when I am able to carry my phone with me I think is adding distance, and even if not, the bonus rewards are - well - a bonus.

The additional Hoenn are Nincado and Shedinja The additional Sinnoh are Staravia, Kricketune, Luxio, Buizel, Drifloom and Drifblim, Skuntank, Spiritomb, and Giratina (still no luck with decent starters, although at least I've seen a handful of spawns this weekend, vs the zero for the past few)
