It's been a couple weeks since we had a proper free-for-all, so let's catch up! How's the event been treating you? With the nest migration happening a couple days ago, anything interesting pop up near you? Let's chat.
I just haven't been able to do much of anything PokeGo-related the past week or so. No baby mon. No santa pikachu. We had a cold blast the past couple of days -- I know people in Canada and colder climes will laugh at me but I'm not build for 12 degree F temperatures. Even with my fancy touchscreen gloves, I just can't stand going out in the cold.
During the previous nest migration, my local park hotspot had become a voltorb nest but I wasn't able to make it out there. Now it's a kabuto nest! But will I be able to get there before the next one happens? I also discovered the local skate park became a squirtle nest. Will I be able to get THERE before the nest migration happens? That said, the Silph Road is full of notes from other trainers giving advice about how to gather squirtles without getting out of your car. LOL But I need a kabutops. I need a blastoise! But I also need whatever voltorb evolves into and that wasn't enough to get me to the park. UGH!
One thing that I really appreciate about the event is that Pikachus have been popping up more often. I've caught like four of them since it started. Before, I hardly saw them at all.
Haven't hatched any baby pokemon yet, though. Hopefully in the upcoming week.
I was planning to go downtown and do a ton of eggwalking and gym battling, but we've dropped below -40 again, so that's... not happening, heh. I'm glad that the event will be going on for a while longer.
I hit level 28 and finally hatched a Chansey. The nest outside of my apartment has shifted from being a Diglett spawning point to a Psyduck spawning point. I liked the Digletts because they added to my Ground Type caught amount and I'm still on the silver badge for that.
Santa Pikachus are easier to find than regular Pikachus, so that's adding to my Electric Type caught amount and my Pikachu Fan badge.
The cold is...sorta keeping me inside except for when I have to. However, going outside and walking is something I have to do fairly often as I don't own a car and depend mostly on walking and buses to get anywhere unless a friend or family member drives me. My fingers hate me.
A Pichu hatched for me late this week! He's adorable! And I therefore have all sorts of mysterious new open spots in my pokedex, which is fun on its own.
But, yeah, in the northern hemisphere, this isn't the congenial season for long walks and hikes (even if one can win away time from all the end-of-year activity). :-)
Anybody know what happens if you evolve a Santa-hat Pikachu? Do you get a Santa-hat Raichu? Or does the hat go away?
I've caught two of them so far. There have been others on my Nearby/Sightings, but I haven't reached them in time, or they were in the wrong direction. Ah, well, there are still many days left.
I walked seven miles over the last two days (omg ouch) and hatched a lot of eggs, all 5Ks acquired since the start of this event, but no luck yet with the new mons. Dang it. I'll keep trying, as my body permits, but man, cold ramps up my pain levels so much, it's hard to push through.
Oh, I wondered about the Pokedex. I've been checking it to see if there were more open spots, but nothing. So they don't show up until you've hatched your first new one?
I've been walking my Wartortle for six weeks now to get a Blastoise! I really want one! I hope you get a warmer day and can make it to the nest before it migrates.
I caught a santa hat pikachu! Also my very first pikachu, haha. HOPEFULLY I WILL GET ENOUGH CANDY FOR A SANTA HAT RAICHU, I love raichu way more than pikachu. I also caught my first voltorb the same day, I was clearly in Electric Town.
I've actually been finding eevee the last few days, so I'm guessing that's because of the event. Maybe one day I'll get enough to evolve them. One daaaaay.
I've been doing a lot of running around because holiday stuff the last week or so, which is good in that I've now got a small cache of pokéballs, but annoying in that I've been so exhausted I haven't been able to try doing any gym battling. I DID manage to finally break 1KCP, though, with my scyther! Hopefully it'll make training/gym takedowns a bit easier, once I have enough energy to go down to one. :3
I'm trying to hold off for a best batch of stuff to evolve or set of eggs to hatch before I use the last lucky egg I've got for now, which means walking this damn Abra another 21km. But while I'm working on that I've rounded up enough holiday Pikachu to evolve a holiday and a non-holiday Raichu, so that'll be fun!
Also taken way too many pictures of my cats next to holiday Pikachu.
I went for a walk in our first real snow of the season this morning, which was nice and holiday-spirit-inspiring, and just slightly below freezing, and also completely not a thing I would have done last year. I've been making deals with myself about which Pokemon on tracking are worth leaving the house for. 3 poliwag at the stop by the river, yes. Two psyduck and an eevee, nope. Three magikarp, depends on how cold/late it is or whether I remember where I left my gloves last time I came in.
We got hit with the edge of the polar vortex cold snap earlier this week, and that plus the approaching holidays seem to have cut down our already sluggish gym traffic. One of the gyms down the street is routinely level 2 with the free slot just sitting there for hours and hours at a time, no matter which team is holding it, and the gyms in either direction down the street have been s l o w l y leveling up unbothered for 5 days or so now. They were both well into level 7 when I checked this afternoon.
Yep, exactly! When my pichu hatched, #172 Pichu became the last (highest) species entry in my pokedex, and #150-171 opened up as numbered "blanks" after #149 Dragonite (which I don't yet have, but have seen in gyms).
On YouTube, I've seen images of the pokedexes of people who've hatched the other babies; it looks like the same kind of expansion for them: up to the highest species number that they've caught or hatched or seen in a gym.
Yeah, I live in a temperate area, and I was sure I'd just blow through our mild winter. Hah! :-D
When I do get out for a good walk, instead of holding my phone openly and watching for pokemon along the way as in the summer and fall, I keep my phone mainly in my pocket, taking it out -- and taking off my gloves -- only at pokestops and gyms. :-)

This is so angsty and whiny. Sorry, guys!
