My Pokemon GO game has been all but unusable since I woke up on Tuesday, apparently due to an update that downloaded in the wee hours of Tuesday morning. This post is part warning and part plea -- if anyone knows how to fix this!?! (FWIW, I'm on a Pixel 6a, Android 14.)
Issues: The map is completely blank, no pokestops or gyms, no wild spawns, no raids, no routes, as if I'm in an uncharted wilderness (I'm actually in a large city). There's also no avatar, not on the blank map, in the circle at the bottom left, nor on the Me or Style screens. (I can attach my Go++; Rocket balloons do come; I can hatch eggs and send gifts.) There is a constant red dot on the Style icon, as if there is something new there; the dot never goes away, and there is nothing on the Style screen. As this began on Tuesday morning, there was a "ticket unboxing" animation from the icon at the bottom right that played but revealed nothing.
What I've done: I've rebooted the app and the phone; refreshed the data; re-downloaded the data; checked for further updates; toggled all the in-game settings; toggled all the app-level settings, like location and connectivity; uninstalled and reinstalled the game.
Who I've consulted and what they've said: I've reported it to Niantic, asked my local RL PoGO community, searched the Internet (including Reddit), and found and watched a YouTube video by someone with the same problem begging for a solution. Some people say that if you sign out on your Android phone and sign in on a friend's iPhone and then reset your avatar to the default (or even just change its clothing), then sign out on your friend's iPhone and sign in on your own Android phone, this fixes it. At least one person said that his "fixed itself" suddenly, without explanation, after several days.
Addendum, 8 August, 11:44pm Pacific. Happily, my game has begun working again! I received a canned response from Niantic Help saying that this is a known issue and they're working on it, and, almost simultaneously, my game began working properly again. No update was involved, so the fix must have been on Niantic's end.
