Hello trainers, your wayward mod has returned! Well, I mean, I was always here and accessible by PM, but I haven't been here here. We'll just skip over the tedious details of the trainwrecky hot mess that was my 2018. Ahem. A big welcome to any recent refugees from Tumblr!

Anyway, on to the event details (ETA: The event starts on Dec 18!):

Here are the high points:

• More ice-type pokemon will spawn, beginning on Dec 18.


• We'll see "holiday-ready pokemon." I assume this means Santa hat!Pikachu, but maybe others too?


• A greater chance of Munchlax, Azurill & Smoochum hatching from 7KM eggs.


• Until Jan 2, you can get one single-use incubator when you spin a pokestop. Only one per day, though!


• From Dec 18-22, we earn double candy for catching and transferring pokemon.


• From Dec 22-26, we earn double stardust when we catch pokemon.


• From Dec 26-30, we earn double XP when we catch pokemon.


• From Dec 30-Jan 2, incubators are twice as effective.

I am SO excited for free incubators! Most of the special boxes have the super incubators, which are great, but I use them for 7km and 10km eggs, and would rather a regular incubator for the 5km ones.

Also YAY DOUBLE CANDY!! Gonna start hoarding Pokemon I need more candy of for double-candy transferring XD I wonder if they'll also introduce double-candy for trading sometime?

I'm always up for more incubators! Especially with all the recent changes re: steps. I'm a sporadic battler so I don't always accrue enough coins to buy them.

Weary fist-bumps for the freaking train-wreck of 2018 and here's to a better 2019.

Meanwhile, though, announcements in other languages confirmed that Chingling and Mantyke will also be in 7km eggs.

tbh I was disappointed. I've been stockpiling evolutions for nearly a year waiting for a double-XP event, but it seems like Niantic is going out of its way to exclude double XP for evolutions so people can't combine it with a lucky egg to get absolute butt-tons of XP anymore. :\

Dropping double exp also discourages people from "hoarding" too ("there'll be a double XP event, why should I ever evolve anything?") whether or not you think that's a good thing is an individual perspective thing I think.

Smoochum is my only non regional gen 2 pokemon I'm missing so if one can PLEASE finally hatch I will be so happy.

Delibird will pop up with the inevitable Santachu!

I'm choosing to believe "incubators are twice as effective" coinciding with New Years when I imagine people will decide they want to be more active isn't incidental.
