Valentine's Day Event

Today, Niantic announced that there will be an in-game Valentine's Day event for PokeGo!

During the event:

• double candy for every catch, hatch, or transfer


• increased spawns of pink pokemon (will your mod finally get a chansey & lickitung?!)


• lure modules will last for 6 (!!!) hours


• the distance required for your buddy to earn candy will be halved

Also, not included in the official announcement but are being reported on The Silph Road subreddit:

• Eggs have changed! Don't be surprised if you get unexpected hatches (e.g. oddishes from 2km eggs).


• Increased spawns of porygon. Your mod is confused about this because porygons are not pink...

Chanseeeeeeeyyyy!! Wheeeee!!

I definitely specifically went out this afternoon to a pokestop-dense spot in the hopes that I'd see a Chansey on tracking, so I can't speak to what anyone else's luck might be, but I wish the best for you all.

We typically have a rare but fair number of Jigglypuff and Clefairy (under 1% of spawns), and super rare lickitung around here (seen three, ever) and in the couple hours I was out, I saw probably 15? Lickitung, and way more clefairies and jigglypuffs than I could be bothered to swerve to pick up. Those two are on Halloween meowth and ghastly level, for sure.


(Also I saw and caught my first wild porygon, but it was at the edge of a long-standing electric biome I'd been meaning to check out after recent reports, so who knows why. Bulbapedia has Porygon classified as pink, for some reason. Today I learned that Bulbapedia has pages sorting Pokemon by color.)

Yay! I noticed I needed half the distance to get candy for my Dratini and figured there had to be an event.

I've seen one Lickitung ever and the second one showed up today, yay! And there's Jigglypuffs and Clefairies everywhere!

I just want an Aerodactyl. That's all. I have or can evolve everything else from Gen 1 except that.

I still have plenty of Gen 2 to get because I don't have many eggs hatched, and I never get anything but 5k eggs, but whatever.

If you ever get the chance to look up Honest Game Trailers on YouTube, they give alternate names for Pokémon. Lickitung's alternate name is "Girl's Best Friend." So, yeah. Kind of disturbing is right.

I'd call Porygon pink and blue, myself, but I've got a 50% chance of being a colorblind gene carrier, so. *shrug* Either way, pick that sucker up. When Niantic gets around to releasing the rest of Gen 2, Porygon has an evolution (called, creatively, Porygon2), so you'll want the candy for that, if nothing else. I've got my fingers crossed that it'll be a 25 candy evo, since Gen 4 introduced an evolution of that, making the Porygon line three stages, and that's the typical candy pattern so far: 50 for single evo, 25 then 100 for double evo (with some exceptions).

There aren't many Jigglypuff or Clefairy in my area, though more of the former, so I'm looking forward to leveling up my Fairy-type catching skill/badge thing.
