I mean it's nothing uniquely inherent to the game as such: it helps because, as noted in the article, it rewards you for going out and doing gentle exercise on a consistent basis. It's just those of us with certain kinds of mental illnesses, and many people with TBI, are seriously hampered in doing so by our illnesses, and the silly-fun-collecting-competitive (but still fairly gentle) nature of the game provides us a tool to overcome that.
